Mass Effect

Well, that's another game done and dusted. Whats my verdict?

Well, how about we start at how fucking BAD the QA team must have been to allow it to be released partially finished. Honestly, I don't work in the games industry (I want to, but that's another story) but someones head must have rolled for the shoddy framerate, constant jaggies and at least 2 VERY noticeable bugs. I even saw some environmental tearing at least twice through my play. Now I understand Devs cant continually work on a game and iron out every single last bit of bug coding, but omg, how to ruin an else wise excellent game.

The graphics are fantastic for the most part, but seriously, next time you guys @ Bioware want to release a game, please do not release it with a frame rate of around 25fps. Whats the point of it looking so good, if you have difficulty turning the right stick to look around without the graphics stuttering and flickering? Whats the point in putting in nice graphic environmental effects such as dust particles if they are going to make the game run like arse?

And what the hell is going on with that 'Motion Blur' & 'Film Grain' on by default? I thought I was playing a 'past' scene - some form of flashback or something...

Anyhow, Bioware, you have made a fantastic, involving, interesting game, but everything mentioned above has not only derived from the whole experience of the game, but its very worrying that a Dev can pass this game off as finished and release it. I hear money talks, but it should never ever detract from releasing a FINISHED game.

The combat system is fantastic mind. Compared to other WRPGs around, the style works very well, but once again, the framerate hinders your ability to turn and shoot as fast as I'd like!

All in all a good game, excellent narrative and brilliant take on a Sci-Fi RPG. Shame about the above points.

A definite 'borrow off a friend' rating from me.
