Hoggard and Harmison

Matty Hoggard and Steve Harmison were both given the boot from the front line for England for the second test v New Zealand, and Peter Moores' gamble paid off big-time, with Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson taking their opportunity with both hands, grabbing 10 wickets between them. A decent performance all round from the side led to the 100+ run victory, and "Hoggy" and "Harmy" will now be wondering when, if ever, they will be able to regain their place in the side.

Flashback 3 years to the summer of 2005, England had just beaten the Aussies and regained the Ashes for the first time in donkeys, with the entire attack based around Flintoff, Hoggard, Harmison, Jones and Giles. None of those played in the second test, due to form and fitness and retirement.

Although the future looks good with Broad/Anderson/Monty, we need Flintoff back sharpish for more reliability with bat and ball.

What the future holds for Hoggy and Harmy however, is open to debate.
